Would you like to commission a painting to your own requirements, either as a special gift or an indulgent treat?
Prices may vary depending on your specification but for guidance I generally charge £325 for a 35cm x 25.5cm (14in x 10in) shipping painting of your choice.
The price quoted includes all research, the preliminary sketch and of course the finished, double mounted painting. Your painting will be supplied cellophane wrapped, mounted in a high quality acid-free double mount, with a strong backing board, ready to frame. I normally use a neutral off-white colour mount, so if you would like an alternative please let me know.
How does commissioning work?
- Initially please contact me with details of the ship or location that you would like depicted. I find anecdotes describing a scene; the location, weather etc particularly useful but certainly not essential.
If, alternatively, you have a photograph that you would like to form the basis of the painting please send this to me. (Please be aware of copyright restrictions if you use someone else's photographs).
- I will research the ship/scene and location etc, before creating a pencil sketch of the proposed painting for your approval. Once we have agreed on the format, I require an initial deposit of £75 before starting work on the painting itself.
- Once the painting is complete I will send a photograph for your approval. After receiving your agreement, the painting may be sent for scanning (see copyright information below) and mounting.
Finally I will send an invoice for the balance due. Once the payment has cleared the painting will be dispatched, in strong packaging, using the Royal Mail Special Delivery service.
As the artist I retain copyright of the painting. In general I will arrange for the picture to be scanned and prints and/or greetings cards may be produced for retail sale. I offer specially discounted rates for commissioning customers.
